This manual covers FileTally 1.0 for Windows and Mac, offered on the download page. It runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11 and on macOS 14 or later. Native iPad and iPhone apps are coming soon.
If you still use an earlier FileTally for Windows release, its screens, export formats and command line differ from those described here. Ask support for instructions that match your version.
For scripting, read the command-line guide. For purchase terms or refunds, use the licensing policy and support policy.
Keep control of the documents
Counting happens on your computer. FileTally does not upload document contents for counting, and it reads source files without changing them. License activation needs an internet connection once on each computer. Files in a synced folder may already be stored by your cloud provider, and making online-only files available may download them.
Start with a small, non-sensitive folder. Check the per-file results and excluded files before relying on a total. An unreadable file or folder is missing coverage, not a document with zero pages.
